Research – FMP (Calke Abbey)

Work at Calke Abbey:

  • Winter Cleaning in the house:

The main priority for the winter is cleaning the house and to inspect every room on the visitors route. The house workers carefully strip all the displays and carefully clean each individual object in the house then the carpets and everything around them. Then everything is covered with dustsheets to keep everything clean until the house opens.

  • Starting the big clean

Every year the Abbey gets a big deep clean, they start this by cleaning the Oak Room then followed by Gardener Wilkinson’s library through to the Night Room and to Sir Vauncey’s bedroom. Scaffolding is built in some of the rooms as it has high ceilings to clean the walls. Examples of rooms would be the Yellow Room, School Room,  Boudoir and the Saloon.

  • Protecting the floors

Eyemats were installed in certain rooms of the house along the visitor route. Eyemats are protective flooring made to look like the original flooring, this is so the original flooring underneath is protected so it doesn’t get damaged.

  • The metalwork

The metal work is cleaned and treated with special paste made from Renaissance wax and white spirit. This creates a protective layer and preserves the current level of decay for 5 years .

Research – Examples of LGBT representation in film and TV- FMP

Examples of  LGBT representation in film and TV:

One day at a time –  In One day at a time examples of LGBT representation  are portrayed through one of the main characters Elena Alvarez. This becomes evident in season 1 episode 10 titled ‘Sex talk’ where Elena comes out to Penelope (her mother) who accepts her daughter but feels weird about it because she needs to understand it a bit more.

Brooklyn Nine Nine – In Brooklyn nine nine examples of LGBT representation are portrayed through the Characters: Captain Ray Holt who is one of the main character who is openly gay and Rosa Diaz who is now openly bisexual, who is played by the actor Stephanie Beatriz who is also openly bisexual. Which helps the story line of her character coming out as she was given a voice to make it relatable with her and the audience of the show. This is evident in the season 5, episode 10 named ‘Game night’. In this episode Diaz comes out to her parents and its doesn’t go over so well until the end of the episode where her father comes back and tells her that he accepts her for who she is but needs time to adjust.

Reflective log – Week 7 – Process of script writing and research (FMP)

The changes that have been made would be the actions. For example ‘ALEX stays silent’ had been changed to ‘ALEX stays silent, defiant. Other changes would include would be how the line is delivered and what the line is itself. For example ‘You could at least try and do something’ has been changed to ‘[Getting Angrier] You could at least try and SAY or DO something. These changes make the characters dialogue more powerful and it adds dynamic to the characters.

I also did research on Calke Abbey which is where Alex’s mother worked. Most of this research was about the house and the process of cleaning the house ready to open again. Alex also works at Calke Abbey as she is studying art history at college

Character Profiles – FMP

Characters:  David (Dad), Alex (Daughter of David), Davids Wife/ Maria

David: He is 48 and he works as a mechanic, he is a widow as his wife died. He only has one daughter, Alex. He lives in Chaddeston, Derby, 26 minutes away from Calke Abbey.

Alex: Alex is Davids daughter, she came out to him around a year ago and he wasn’t happy about it so she left the house as she was old enough, she is now 19 living with her roommate who is a year older than her. Alex works at Calke Abbey as a tour guide but is hoping for a newer job with better opportunities.

Davids wife/Maria : When she died she was 43, she was involved in a car crash along the A50 Derby Southern Bypass. She also worked at Calke Abbey as a cleaner during the winter. She accepted her daughter for who she is but unfortunately she died a month after so life become a lot more difficult for David and Alex.

Screenplay for film

Scene heading – Scene heading tells you whether the scene is set inside or outside using INT/EXT.

The scene heading also shows you what time of day it is and its shown like this: SUNRISE, DAY, NOON, SUNSET and NIGHT.

The scene heading also tells the location where the scene is set in

Action – The action tells the actor what to do at a specific time in the script.

Character – The character tells you which character is speaking

Dialogue – The dialogue is basically what the character is saying, in this you can include how the character is supposed to deliver that line and its normally shown like this ‘()’. For example: (Forcefully).

Reflective log – Week 6 (FMP)

Reflective log – Week 6

The research I have done this week is looking into TV shows and other screen plays with good LGBT representation and describing how it’s shown also giving my opinions on how it has been portrayed. This was useful to me because I could include some ideas and improve upon them.

I have discussed the backgrounds of my characters and how it fits in to the whole narrative so the story begins to make a bit more sense and things connect more. This has encouraged me to make small changes to the story lines and characters.

This week I have mostly been working on my research whilst working on my script in the background. I managed to get quite a bit of research done but only managed to write a page and a half of my script.

My aims going forward would be to consistently work on my script so I can get it finished whilst also working on my research.

This week I have learned that I need to plan previous scenes for it to properly make a connection to the scene that I’m writing.

I am happy with the start of my script and the stories of my characters as it’s something that is personal to me and other people can relate to it.

Problems that I’ve encountered would be to do with the story lines. However, I’ve been thinking of newer story lines that I could include to make the narrative flow smoother.

Next week I am going to build up my script and finish it so then I can edit anything that needs editing and also carry on with my research.

Also I have been focusing on my writing and I am really close to finishing it, but I can finish it and edit it ready for it to be printed to be sent off to the actors I need.

But for now I am going to finish gaps in my research like properly explain why LGBT representation is needed and why its important for kids to learn those relationships the same way they learn about heterosexual relationships. LGBT relationships need to be normalised better than they are being and that its normal to feel attraction to the same – sex.

Wreck explorer characters

Wreck Explorer

This character is a bad ass character called Stephanie Stockwell who likes to explore hidden worlds and find artifacts that can lead her deeper into history. She is strong and knows how to handle things independently.

McGuffin- Photo primary

‘Oh no its the dog statue’ I say turning towards my friend ‘Whatever you do, do NOT stare at in any longer than 25 seconds, other wise something really bad will happen’

‘Do you seriously believe that, its a dog, it can’t hurt anyone and its a statue. You need to stop reading that kind of stuff’ Andy replies almost irritated

‘Okay believe me don’t believe me but I know stuff like this and I know it can’t be trusted’ I say defending myself

We both walk to the bus stop and wait a 3 minute wait for a bus

‘I stared at the Dog longer than 25 seconds and nothing bad has happened’ Andy says in a over confident voice

‘What are you doing!. Why would you do that!? I say shocked ‘If anything bad happens its on you and I’ll never forgive you, especially if you put me in danger’

‘Look Melissa, you’re freaking out about nothing its a stupid old myth’

part 1 – Wreck Explorer

The game I am writing for is called wreck explorer. In the game I feel like I could write the letters and post cards that have been found in the luggage. They could be about their lives and where there were going and why. There could also be childrens drawings and letters even books. For the project I hope that some of the letters that I write could be used to tell a story about everyones life who was on the plane.

For the letters I would use a good layout and a good font to clearly show that it is a letter, I would also do the same for the postcards if I write them aswell, the letters could include how the plane crashed.
